Corpus Terrae – Installation by Antonio Scarponi

Corpus Terrae is a unique volume of landscape drawings "taken" from the earth. It contains twenty-six original plates made from various materials, marks, and gestures layered like non-functional geological strata that interpenetrate each other.
In each plate, the "geological" composition changes, causing the different layers to blend or repel. This makes it possible for surfaces to exfoliate, revealing fragments of adjacent materiality contained within the thickness of the drawing.
Antonio Scarponi explores techniques and intentions that go beyond traditional drawing. Drawing becomes a form of exploration, a mapping of the mind's wandering, a way of getting lost by delving into the paper, bending the curves of illusions to reveal a realm of possibilities.
Like a plough tearing through the earth's surface, Antonio Scarponi's drawings are a profanation of the plane, scrutinizing an imagined space beyond the medium.
